Physical Therapist Salary

TITLE

A Physical Therapist Salary is calculated by the US Government Bureau of Labor Statistics from a variety of sources. Physical Therapists work in a number of settings including hospitals, clinics and schools.  The average Physical Therapists salary varies depending on the location and the setting.  The assumption was made that the Pharmacists reflected here were working an average of 40 hours per week with a total of 2080 hours per year.

HOURLY

The Physical Therapist median salary is $30.33 per hour. The lowest 10% earn $21.51 per hour and those in the upper 10% earn more than $43.66 per hour.

ANNUALLY

On an annual basis the median Physical Therapist salary is $63,080. The lowest 10% earn $44,750 per year while the upper 10% earn more than $90,810 per year.  These salaries are calculated as a mean or average.

Private Practice Vs Employment

Physical Therapists are uniquely positioned to operate in a private practice setting.  Working with other healthcare professionals they can independently provide services and therapy. The federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy in a state by state survey lists more than 203,000 Physical Therapists in practice.  It may be assumed that approximately 25% of all physical therapists are self-employed.

Where They Work

Of all the Physical Therapists employed in the United States over 53,000 of them work in the offices of physicians and other healthcare providers.  An additional 44,220 work in hospitals.  Home health care employs over 16,000 and nursing care facilities account for an additional 9,870.
